Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. We celebrate and support people looking to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, anyone can help a borrower start or grow a business, go to school, access clean energy or realize their potential. For some, it’s a matter of survival, for others it’s the fuel for a life-long ambition.
100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans. Kiva covers costs primarily through optional donations, as well as through support from grants and sponsors.
SpiritWind Kidz Ranch
SpiritWind was a vision my grandfather bestowed upon me years ago after his death. The day of his funeral actually. I stood by the fence at their farm and asked to understand WHY I was here...in this lifetime. It was a big question for a heavy heart. The heaviness is another story for later.
What I heard and saw was kids need to return to nature. The world is changing for the good. What I saw in my vision is now reality across the globe. But there is a difference...we see a bigger perspective. All inclusive. Animals, plants, kids, adults...young and old.
Our hearts and souls are yearning for something more! We yearn to be natural, holistic, to sleep under the stars in total silence! We yearn to feel the pulse in our souls beat at such a rate after we did something we never thought we could.
To see the "ah-ha" moment in a child's eyes when they discover something deep within their BEing is the reason for SpiritWind. It is the same brilliant moment for the adults as well. The beauty in one's smile after an evening on the tractor, watching the sunset, or spending time with horses, learning how a farm works, installing pipe for the first time, or lighting a fire in a ceremony manner...these souls on fire are the most amazing gift!
Sunlight Alliance Foundation
The Sunlight Alliance Foundation (SLAF), a 501c3 nonprofit organization, was created in 2007 with the mission to actively work with individuals and families to provide support during life’s challenges. The SLAF is a network of individuals committed to growing, sharing and healing the hearts of humanity – one heart at a time.
It is our vision to assist the children and elderly of the world, regardless of calendar age – to heal themselves, their families, and their world. Since the beginning, the SLAF has supported many different families in the middle of crisis and helped give them the tools to succeed and move forward. SLAF has assisted families with children with congenital heart defects, breathing problems, cancer, and even a mother who was gravely ill, and a father with cancer and unable to support his family.
Serving our community is very important to the volunteers at SLAF. Making a difference in the lives of others and watching them grow and flourish is what our intention is behind our actions.
SUNLIGHT ALLIANCE scholarship program
The Scholarship Program is offered by Sunlight Alliance LLC for people that feel the need to learn and grow spiritually but may not have the extra money to take spiritual classes at this time. With this program, people can still participate and have the experiences in a class setting, but at a discounted rate. We have had so many people ask about it, that Spirit has suggested that we offer a few different options!
Sunny created the scholarship program as a way of giving back. Many years ago, Sunny was the one in need, not having enough money to take care of her and her son’s basic needs, and she was blessed to receive help. As an intentional effort to give back, Scholarship recipients have received well over $100,000 in assistance. There are hundreds of people that have then expanded, grown and given back when they could as well, whether through money, time or energy. It is a beautiful gift to give and receive.
The Give Back Kids
You can instill a sense of gratitude and generosity in even the youngest of children by teaching them the value of volunteering and giving back. I have been dreaming and thinking about starting a volunteer program for kids of all ages since my oldest son was born (in 2008!).
I have always looked for volunteer opportunities to do with my kids and the options are slim! I always hear from other moms that they don't know where to start or what to do to volunteer
with young kids. SO - this group will meet just once a month and we will rotate activities each time so we will look for ideas from all you mommas! If you can't make it every month, no big deal, just come when it works for you!
Myself (Rene Hanssen) and Sara Connors will be heading this up and we already have tons of ideas - Some examples include: making cards to send to soldiers overseas, bring baked goods to the police stations, make a lemonade stand to raise money for a local nonprofit, pack food for the food shelves, food drives, visit a nursing home to cheer up the elderly, buy and deliver school supplies to families in need, - to name just a few!
It is such a GIFT to give our children to teach them young to give back and the importance of helping others! And what a blessing to those receiving!
